I usually use a product called PHOSfree that is available online and at most pool stores.
Trisodium phosphate has a variety of applications but is primarily used as a cleaning agent, food additive, stain remover and degreaser. Sodium hexametaphosphate, as one of the most widely used water treatment agent, is necessary for industrial water, domestic water and waste water disposal. It is soluble in water, the aqueous solution is alkaline and the PH value of 1% aqueous solution is 9.7. According to the EPA it’s a major concern and an extremely difficult environmental challenge.
Phosphorus Removal Water Treatment. Superior quality trisodium phosphate – TSP For phosphate levels above 900 ppb, the dosage is 1.5 L per 10,000 gallons of pool water. Accepta’s trisodium phosphate is a white, granular or crystalline solid, highly soluble in water producing an alkaline solution. Even small levels of phosphate can be maintained to ensure the precipitation of calcium phosphate in the bulk boiler water-away from heating surfaces. To get clean and healthy pool water, phosphate levels must be kept low. Boiler feedwater can be protected from corrosive conditions through coordinated phosphate/pH control treatment. Use a phosphate remover: Most phosphate removers use lanthanum, a rare earth metal, to bind and remove phosphates immediately upon use. Why Water Treatment for Phosphorus Removal? As phosphorus issues persist, regulations that limit levels in wastewater will become more strict. There are two ways to remove phosphates in pool water: 1. Phosphorus is a common constituent of agricultural fertilizers, manure, and organic wastes in sewage and industrial effluent. Phosphorous is one of the major nutrients contributing in the increased eutrophication of lakes and natural waters. For many treatment facilities, understanding how to effectively remove phosphorus from their effluent might be a challenge, but it is surely possible. Phosphate buffers the boiler water, reducing the chance of large pH swings due to the development of caustic concentrations. Controlling phosphorous discharged from municipal and industrial wastewater treatment plants is a key factor in preventing eutrophication of surface waters. This has always been the case but only recently was phosphate recognized as the cause of many common problems. Top image caption: Chemical treatment combined with physical removal in a dissolved air flotation system provides an effective solution for removing phosphate in industrial wastewater, allowing the clean treated effluent to be safely discharged. Phosphorus, as soluble orthophosphate, is a critical nutrient in all biological processes, including activated sludge treatment.
In phosphate treatment, excess caustic combines with disodium phosphate to form trisodium phosphate. Excessive phosphorous can cause eutrophication which leads to depleted oxygen levels in water. Therefore, the introduction of phosphate treatment eliminated the problem of calcium carbonate scale. Almost all wastewater treatment plants perform at least a secondary treatment, but this typically does not provide enough phosphorus removal.
